What a Jewel Spines dragon looks like

Jewel Spines is a recessive accent morph, graded Mythic, well above the Rare a recessive morph usually gets.

Accent genes add something of their own without moving the main markings, so Jewel Spines stacks with every other gene.

Nothing in the game today hides Jewel Spines: a dragon with two copies always shows it.

Only the spines change: the rest of the dragon keeps its colours and pattern, so it mixes with any other morph. Its horns, the frill on its head and any antlers stay as they are, so with Regal the horns are gold above turquoise spines.

How to breed a Jewel Spines dragon

Jewel Spines is recessive: a dragon shows it only with two copies of the gene, one from each parent. With one copy it looks Normal but carries Jewel Spines hidden, a het, and passes it to half its babies.

PairingJewel Spines per egg
Jewel Spines × Jewel SpinesEvery egg Jewel Spines100%
Jewel Spines × het Jewel Spines50% Normal, every one het Jewel Spines50%
het Jewel Spines × het Jewel Spines75% Normal, each 67% het Jewel Spines25%
Jewel Spines × Normal100% Normal, every one het Jewel Spines0%
het Jewel Spines × Normal100% Normal, each 50% het Jewel Spines0%

What het means here: a baby that looks Normal from het × het carries Jewel Spines 67% of the time, so the game labels it "67% het Jewel Spines", a possible het. From het × Normal that is 50%, and every baby of a Jewel Spines × Normal is a proven het. Hets and possible hets explains how those numbers move.

To prove a possible het, pair it with a Jewel Spines. One Jewel Spines baby proves it at once. Each Normal baby lowers the chance but never to zero: after three Normal babies in a row, a 67% het Jewel Spines falls to 20%.

Where to get a Jewel Spines dragon

No crate in the store holds a Jewel Spines dragon. The gene is found in one place only, the Friend Crate, and 5% of Friend Crates hold a dragon showing it, two copies.

The Friend Crate is never sold: it's a gift for bringing a friend into Dragonbred, by your invite link or code (a dragon's page you share carries it too). Its dragons are yours to keep and breed, never to sell or trade, but the babies they hatch are free to sell like any other, so every other Jewel Spines in the game is bred from them.
