What a Lava dragon looks like

Lava is a recessive element morph, graded Legendary, as every element look is.

An element is what the markings are made of. The body keeps its colour genes, so Lava comes on every body colour, and each colour makes a different dragon.

Patternless hides it: a Patternless dragon can carry Lava unseen and still pass it on.

How to breed a Lava dragon

Lava is recessive: a dragon shows it only with two copies of the gene, one from each parent. With one copy it looks Normal but carries Lava hidden, a het, and passes it to half its babies.

PairingLava per egg
Lava × LavaEvery egg Lava100%
Lava × het Lava50% Normal, every one het Lava50%
het Lava × het Lava75% Normal, each 67% het Lava25%
Lava × Normal100% Normal, every one het Lava0%
het Lava × Normal100% Normal, each 50% het Lava0%

What het means here: a baby that looks Normal from het × het carries Lava 67% of the time, so the game labels it "67% het Lava", a possible het. From het × Normal that is 50%, and every baby of a Lava × Normal is a proven het. Hets and possible hets explains how those numbers move.

To prove a possible het, pair it with a Lava. One Lava baby proves it at once. Each Normal baby lowers the chance but never to zero: after three Normal babies in a row, a 67% het Lava falls to 20%.

Combinations with Lava

Because Lava keeps the body's colour, every colour makes its own square in the combinations book: Albino Lava, Golden Lava, Pale Gold Lava, Dark Lava, Super Dark Lava, Red Lava and Deep Red Lava, and plain Lava with no colour gene. All 8 are open today, and the first keeper to hatch each square holds it as a world first.

Lava Ice: Crust-filled markings cracked with ice-blue light. Ice is held back for after launch, so nobody can breed Lava Ice yet.

Lava Galaxy: Violet night-sky markings split by lava cracks and stars. Galaxy is held back for after launch, so nobody can breed Lava Galaxy yet.

Neon Lava: The lava burns sulphur yellow-green, cracks and outlines glowing together. Neon is held back for after launch, so nobody can breed Neon Lava yet.

Where to get a Lava dragon

Lava comes from one place: the Lava Crate, whose featured Legendary it is. 2% of Lava Crates hold a dragon showing it, and no other crate or import carries the gene.

The Lava Crate costs 250 Embers, the currency bought with real money, and it is on sale for a limited time. The free track of the Daily Pass gives one sealed on days 7 and 30, and a Wooden Crate holds one sealed 1 in 1,000 times.
